March 6 – 8 are the dates for this year’s premiere family history learning event. It’s 3 full days of keynote speeches and awesome learning presentations. You can attend “live” and in person in Salt Lake City. Or, you can attend from home in your jammies! Either way, you’re in for a fantastic experience.
Beyond the presentations, there’s a fun tool you need to check out. “Relatives at RootsTech” is a great way to connect with distant cousins who are also attending RootsTech from around the world. As of February 22, I have 9,850 relatives signed up for this year’s event! There are currently 255,494 registered participants from 200 countries. Can you see the possibilities??

Several years ago, I connected with a previously unknown cousin from Denmark, who was also attending RootsTech. Relatives at RootsTech made this possible. We exchanged stories, photos and family information. That 4th great grandfather of mine went from being a name and dates on a piece of paper to seeing his photo and learning more about his life. That was amazing!!
The way this works. You have to have a FamilySearch.org account. It’s FREE! Then you need to build your family tree. The site takes what you’ve entered and finds cousins who match with you. The site then shows your connection. Here is part of what this connection looks like. It continues down to You and Your cousin. (I’ve left it off for privacy reasons.)

This is a great visual to help you see the connections. I love studying these connection maps to find new avenues for research.
RootsTech.org Register for FREE. Then log in and start learning and exploring. You can use the live Relatives at RootsTech connection feature now until April 12.
The videos are available for your view all year long. The archive includes workshops from years’ past, as well. Viewing “live” gives you a chance to ask questions of presenters. But, if you aren’t able to sit in, you can access these presentations and their handouts any time after the live presentation.
Once registered, you can create playlists of sessions you’d like to view. Create a personalized schedule for the event. Visit the exhibit hall and see what new products are coming out to help with the genealogy journey.
Come and join the 200,000+ family history enthusiasts from around the world who are learning and connecting to make the family history journey richer! Who knows, you might find a new cousin to work with you on this project!
Happy cousin searching!
